We've been watching this one for the past few days.
Great fun as Neil Prendeville ran a story of a local stag party where the groom-to-be lost his car. Couldn't find it anywhere and in a fit of desperation decided to call Neil on RED FM.
Long story short - the car was found.
But the story grew legs and Neil was featured on the Ashley and Gord morning show on Pure Country in Ottawa, Canada.
Just goes to show how a good on air bit can create a buzz.
Radiothon Season!
LCR102.9 in Loughrea kicked off their radiothon today with a live broadcast for 24 hours straight. The station is raising funds to help stay on air and serve the community.
Meanwhile, in Cork, 96FM is gearing up for the Giving For Living radiothon on May 22nd, 23rd and 24th. This is to support cancer services in the city and county.

This is a great picture of Dublin City FM presenter Helen Desbois .
It features Helen when she was part of Celebrity Big Brother South Africa in 2002. Helen posted the pic on social media ahead of the CBB UK Final Friday evening
Helen carved a huge career in SA as a recording artist, stage and screen actor, VO Artist and Radio/TV presenter.
We're big fans and we're all lucky to have her on radio in Ireland.
(PS - can you name two other BB contestants who went on to feature on radio here?)

Getting a gig is difficult...building and keeping the gig can be even more of a job. So, it's good to mark milestones.
Gemma Delaney today celebrates two years hosting afternoons on the WLR show 'The Spin Home'.
Gemma arrived after a stint co-hosting Mornings on Southeast Radio and has made the timeslot very much her own through a mix of on-air and social media. Plus she has a secret weapon - she's very funny!
Congrats Gemma. Wishing you many more anniversaries.

Radio presenters are wonderful at hiding insecurities. As a profession, the job is to portray an image and transmit an energy to the listener. But we all have something about ourselves that can hinder the way we work and communicate with others.
This week, Rob G from the East Coast FM morning show spoke about the battle with his self image and how he has gone about taking steps to remedy that.
His social media post is an inspiration as he detailed how he felt restricted in the past.
Well worth a minute of your time: https://Instagram.com/radiorobg

We love to see radio people pop up on other mediums. The ability to be seen by a potential new audience and reinforce yourself with current listeners.
But it's important to have something to say. In this case Vikki Martin of Radio Nova and KFM spoke to RSVP magazine about her ADHD diagnosis. An important subject and one that adds another layer to her public persona...listeners can 'know Vikki a little more.
Interesting read, too.

Dublin City FM presenter, John Barker was featured in an article on Extra.ie talking about his radio show 'Tilt'...a show that inspires live monthly showcase gigs across the capital.
John has been committed to introducing and promoting new Irish music since his days hosting 98FM's Totally Irish show.
A workhorse for the industry who deserves the recognition (and a bloody nice guy as well!)

A good day for Cork.
Presenters at 96FM and C103 can relax a bit knowing that both stations have signed for another 10 years with CnaMeán.
Makes us wonder what radio will sound like in 2035!
For now, congrats to all involved.
Today FM listeners not happy with the Big 500 Songs #1 over the bank holiday weekend.
Catching up on few movers and shakers that we didn't have space for over the past week.
Fyona Smith departed Today FM where she held down the Managing Editor role for 2.5 years. She has already made the return to the Australian Gold Coast.
Niall O'Keefe announced his move to Radio Nova as APD and morning show producer after 10 years with Midlands 103.
Fiona Cahill celebrated 3 years with Clare FM. Fiona is Head of News there.
Right...we're up to date!

Congrats to Radio Nova presenter, Emily Brew as she celebrates four years with the station this weekend.
During that time she has produced PJ & Jim as well as been Nominated for an IMRO as best newcomer...no mean feat.
Emily is very active on social media and does a great job of connecting with her audience.
You can hear Emily 2-6pm Sundays and Easter Monday breakfast.

We do love awards...Best Looking, Most Talented, Most Popular.
With that in mind, you can imagine the excitement when the Hotpress Magazine Hotties Awards announced their local/regional radio category winners.
The Hotties are great because they are voted for by the public and so, some new names appear.
Top this year is Ava Somers from Beat102103 (gotta love that.) Followed by Spin's Michaela Hayes and then her namesake Colm Hayes from Classic Hits.
Wrapping up the Top 5 are Nova's Marty Miller and Stevie G from RedFM.
Gemma Bradley from BBC Radio Ulster 6th, Fionnuala Corbett iRadio 7th, Martin Bridgeman KCLR 8th, Louise Tighe (formerly FM104) 9th and in 10th spot Galway Bay's Kayte O'Malley.
Great list and congrats to all.

With the DAB+ trials taking shape, it will be a great opportunity for on air people to expand their experience and get involved in different aspects of the industry...especially at the programming end.
Onic have a very ambitious line up of Digital stations and one example of utilising existing staff is seen with their R&B station. Cork's 96FM presenter Simon Murdoch will be responsible for playlisting and audio for Onic RnB.
The 11 new Onic streams went live yesterday.

Yesterday marked the end of three years with Radio Nova and Classic Hits for Daniel Pitcher.
Dan joined from Q102/FM104 to take up the reigns as Head of News.
We wish him all the very best as he moves onto to adventures new.

The man, the legend...Dave Fanning is back on weekday radio.
Dave lauched his new 6-8pm Mon-Fri slot on RTE Gold after presenting Saturdays up to this point.
Great to see Gold add another voiced show to the schedule. Some may complain that it's voice tracked but, in our opinion, we'd rather have VT'd Dave than no Dave at all.

1000 episodes of anything is something to shout about at the best of times...and that's exactly what Adrian Kennedy is doing as he and co-host Jeremy Dixon mark the 'Opinions Matter' podcast.
The show came to life after the duo ended their run with 98FM, when they decided to form their own product.
Adrian cam still be heard on NewsTalk whereas Jeremy produces the Classic Hits morning show.
Opinions Matter is an award winning podcast and here's to the next 1000 episodes!

Former 98FM presenter and Classic Hits APD, Robbie Fogarty and his wife Catherine celebrated their 'Orchid Anniversary' - 28 years married.
Robbie now presents the morning show weekdays on Sunshine 106.8.
Congratulations to both.

Block Rockin' Beats has become one of the most successful and talked about shows on Irish Radio.
And over Easter, the show will broadcast Thursday to Sunday - the longest run in it's history.
Dec Pierce has turned a weekend show on Today FM into a cultural phenomenon, with live gigs across the country and a loyal fan base that any presenter would love to have.
Fair play.

She'll be missed.
After ten years in radio and two years with Spin 1038, Shireen Langan has decided to move on. In fact, she is leaving her on air career entirely.
Shireen made her mark. After filling in on 98FM and eventually landing late nights, the move to Spin happened when she teamed up with Jamie Maguire.
What is she up to next? She didn't say but we wish her well.
Thanks for the great radio moments, Shireen.
This is what being part of a group can lead to.
LMFM presenter, Cabrina Conaty posted pictures on social media from her recent visit to the News Corp building in London.
Cabrina was celebrating her second year on air with a call in to see Ryan Tubridy who hosts his weekend show on LMFM from the Virgin Radio studios in London.
Looks like a fantastic day!

Former Q102 and Spin1038 presenter/news person, Claire Craig has added another string to her bow.
Showing that there is always more to radio people, Claire has just been signed by book publisher Black Thoughts to pen her upcoming supernatural romance novel, 'Nightshade'.
This will be Claire's debut novel and is due for release next year.
You can find Claire hosting the podcast 'Sport Stars Aren't Special' with Keith Russell.
Well, we've never seen this done before and to be honest, initially we weren't sure about it. Looked a bit 'in-house' at first but...what do we know??
Turns out to have been a great idea!
Spin 1038 morning presenter, Dave Hammond, celebrated his 30th birthday with listeners at Jump Zone adventure venue. A kids party for adults.
Another reason for the event was revealing the new 3rd member of the Fully Charged show - Fiona Frawley.
Judging by the pics posted online, it looks like it all went down very well.
Great Job!
Radio people are great at hopping on a trend. Something hit for a minute...we'll be there for the whole 60 seconds and stay until needing to move onto the next.
Step up - The AI doll.
Fair play to Dec Pierce, Spin's Dylan Gibson, Conor Woods iRadio and former 96FM'er Darren Johnston.
Funny thing is...we'd buy one of these!

Former RedFM PD and Afternoon Drive presenter, Dave MacArdle announced his latest move today.
He has joined The Communicators Clinic as a Training Consultant and Coach.
Dave spent 17 years with the Cork station before jumping into the freelance world with RTE and Classic Hits.
In fact, he received an IMRO nomination last year for his work on an RTE Radio 1 documentary.
Best wishes with the new gig, Dave. Hope to continue hearing you on air in the future.
In studio guests today at Dublin City FM, Q102, Classic Hits and RTE Lyric FM.
Talking about job interview skills, Meditation, classical music concerts and Fair City!

Spin Southwest weekend presenter Katie Sheehan has made an appeal.
Katie's son Michael is 11 years old and lives with Cystic Fibrosis.
She took to social media today to look for support for Cystic Fibrosis Day - April 11th.
The campaign is called 65Roses. You can donate by visiting 65roses.ie or buy a purple rose at Dunnes Stores.
Great work Katie.

Suzanne Kane has been in the headlines today. Extra.ie ran a piece sensationalising the fact that she has been missing from her 98FM gig since February.
Suzanne began life on mid-mornings, initially as a solo presenter then later with the addition of Brian Dowling. Through her social media, she has maintained a high level of interest in the show. It takes a lot of work to document your life and promote your show in the way Suzanne does.
Formerly with Lite FM/Q102, FM104 and Classic Hits - Suzanne is a pro and knows her audience's needs.
According to the Extra.ie article Bauer refused to comment.

60 shows later and Ronan Berry called it a day on his 'Saturday View' show at Midlands 103 this morning.
Starting off as a temporary gig in January of last year, the show welcomed many spokespeople from the region. It continues now with Sally Ann Barrett at the helm.
Ronan stays with the station though - his Tuesday evening business show rolls on.
"It's been an absolute privilege."

Love when special guests actually arrive in the building and not on a link from London or elsewhere as part of a conveyor belt of stations.
Especially when the station is outside the major market. With that in mind, great to have Ricky Tomlinson pop into Southeast Radio in Wexford for a chat.
Ricky is most famous for playing the role of Jim Royle in the Royle Family but some of you may remember him as Bobby Corkhill from the Channel 4 soap 'Brookside' (not us...we're far too young...ahem.)
Here he is pictured with Aileen from the Phil Cawley morning show.

We were delighted to see the legendary Andy Preston back behind the mic today...this time on Classic Hits.
Starting his first main on air gig with FM104 in Dublin hosting the Funny Farm at the weekends (Rick O'Shea hosted weekdays), Andy eventually ended up presenting the 10-3 Show on the station, becoming one of the longest running continuous shows in the country.
All gigs come to an end and in this case, Andy only needed to get the lift to the next floor to take over mid-afternoons on Q102.
Since ending his time with (then) Wireless Group, he has kept a low profile.
(Opinion) Radio could badly use someone with the natural talent and experience as Andy Preston.

Congratulations to Galway Bay FM on their 30,000 followers on Instagram.
That got us thinking..."how are the other stations doing on 'the gram'?!"

Radio still has the power to make a difference in people's lives. Yes, we can give away cars and holidays and large sums of cash...but...
When we tap into what joins us together as humans - that's when radio is at it's strongest and most effective. Various Radiothons show this.
Nothing joins listeners together more than looking after vulnerable children and right now NewsTalk are working to raise money for the wonderful Make-A-Wish foundation, as they help grant wishes to children with critical illness, bringing hope, strength and happiness back to them, their families and their communities.
"Thank you to everyone who has donated to Make-A-Wish Ireland so far, let's keep going so we can help grant more wishes."
You can see more here:

It's amazing to see how far people in the radio industry can get in life, using the skills learned in the profession.
Alison Comyn has gone from on-air at LMFM, to news reading at (then) 4FM, RTE Radio 1 LiveLine to on screen with UTV Ireland, BBC News and Sky News.
Now a Fianna Fáil Senator, Alison revealed her latest role:
"I am deeply privileged and delighted to be appointed by An Taoiseach as Spokesperson for Arts, Culture, Media, and Sport. These sectors are at the heart of our national identity, shaping who we are, how we express ourselves, and how we connect as a society."
That family must have some special water because Alison's brother is Broadcaster, Michael Comyn.
Congratulations Alison from Irish-Radio.
From Best This to Best That...a staple of local radio is highlighting the businesses in each market and celebrating them with special awards. It's great for Listeners to be able to vote for the coffee shops, hairdressers etc that they visit most.
It's also great for the sales team...creating a feel good energy between the station and potential clients.
Lastly, it connects the brand with the area. Very important.
Currently 98FM, Midlands 103, Galway Bay and Beat are all holding their versions...although we're not 100% sure about the Beat one lol!
Lauren Lynch - Clare FM
We're delighted to welcome Lauren Lynch to our Presenter Q&A.
Lauren took over the 'Out The Gap' show on Clare FM from Brian McEvoy and has made it her own.
So, we wanted to know how she got there and what she likes about being on air everyday.
1. Who inspired you to work on air?
I dont think it was one specific person who inspired me, but if I had to choose it would be former WLR presenter Ian Noctor, all down to the fact I went to WLR for work experience in TY and was working with him and he inspired me to go to college and study radio.
2. How did you get your break?
I got my break in Spin South West back in 2019, before I even completed my degree. They needed an Irish speaking presenter and that’s just who I was, got Pop Raidió and the rest is history!
3. Prep - how much do you feel, is enough?
When I first started in radio, I prepped to near every second, but as I went on and got more experience, I realised it’s live radio and you cannot prep as much as you think you can. At the moment on my show Out The Gap, I have showbiz news which I prep before the show and my Irish artist of the week I would prep too. Other than that I mainly go with the flow.
4. Favourite part of your show?
I think my favourite part of my show is I get to call it mine and I own it! I also love my Irish artist of the week segment as I get to give smaller Irish artist a platform on radio to speak about themselves and have their track heard by everyone around the county.
5. Which on air person do you admire (anywhere in the world)?
I think if I was to choose anyone around the world it would be Zoe Ball as she was BBC’s first female presenter for Radio 1 and Radio 2 if I recall. It’s amazing to see how many females have graced the industry.
You can find Lauren weekdays 3-7pm on Clare FM:
https://www.clare.fm/radio-schedule/out-the-gap-with-brian-mcevoy/

Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lauren-lynch-1b7437132?

That's a fine looking vehicle!
🎙️ Gemma Delaney, John Keane, Dean Robinson, and the WLR Street Team are about to set off on their Coast To Coast broadcast live all across the county from their self-sustainable solar-powered broadcast unit.
Fantastic pic of the team. They look ready to enjoy the experience!

Congratulations to East Coast FM mid afternoon Presenter, Tommy Greene who announced his upcoming marriage to Val Hewson yesterday.
The couple celebrated in style in the Trocadero restaurant in Dublin last night.
Tommy has been a feature on the Bray station for over a decade.
We wish them well.
To The people of Galway, he's been the voice of traffic with his daily reports from his motorbike...traversing the highways and byways of the city and county warning of diversions and road works.
To The staff at Galway Bay FM, he's simply 'The Boss'.
To voiceover people, he's known as the man who forensically runs through scripts over the phone to make sure you get the read spot on!.
Jon Richards.
Happy retirement. You've earned it.
Enjoy your new life in Asia.
You made a difference.

Another show anniversary today.
PJ and Jim on Radio Nova with four candles on the cake this morning.
Originally on Classic Hits, the two swapped stations with the Colm and Lucy Show to take over on Nova and have never looked back.
PJ was already well known for his TV and Comedy work and Jim has been in the business forever! His story goes back to the Super Pirates of the late 80s to FM104, 98FM, Dublin's Country 106.8 to name a few. So it was no surprise that this combo would work with PJ bringing the funny and Jim driving the bus.
Audience research from various stations always places the duo at or near the top of favourite morning shows in the market.
Enjoy the days lads and congratulations.

Definitely one for those searching for the off-beat....Hide FM has been on-air in Dublin on 94.3 FM for the past week with three weeks left on a temp licence.
Presented by Fingal County Council, 94.3 HIDE FM sees artist Garrett Phelan imagine and perform the role of a bird watcher in the field observing the birds that inhabit the Rogerstown Estuary in Lusk from THE HIDE SCULPTURE located at the Park.
It's the first time that a local authority has been issued a broadcast licence by Coimisiún na Meán and the first time a radio station has been powered by recycled energy from a landfill. Definitely different!

Ends April 20th.

Onic (formerly Wireless Ireland) today launched talkSPORT Ireland, as the new DAB trial sets to launch in April.
No specific details to go along with the launch but we wonder what exactly will warrant the 'Ireland' tag?
Right now, the station offers an Irish opt out during EPL games at the weekend and have recruited one host for a women's football show.
Other than that, no details.
We presume there will be more to it than that, otherwise what is the point of the station?
When a listener turns on talkSPORT Ireland, they will be expecting Irish content presented by Irish hosts. Hence the name!
Hopefully this branding lives up to that expectation.

Colm Hayes and Lucy Kennedy are marking fours years together on the Classic Hits morning show this week.
Part of the celebration includes adding €500 to the pot for their 'What Did Lucy Kennedy Say to Colm Hayes' feature, bringing the total to €15k.
The station has seen some long serving breakfast shows through it's history starting with Gareth O'Callaghan in its 4FM days, then PJ and Jim before they went to sister station Radio Nova.
Breakfast radio in Dublin is super competitive and a four year run is definitely an achievement.

Early April Fools stunt from the Bauer stable as Spin1038 'launches' BrainRot FM...designed for people who have been raised musically on TikTok and are unable to maintain enough patience to listen to a song all the way through.
Nice try, Bauer.
We wonder will anyone else attempt an April 1 gambit today?
Keep your eyes (and ears) peeled!
Mother's Day around the country.
Spin Southwest, Galway Bay FM, FM104, Finn Valley FM, Dublin City FM.
Happy Mother's day from Irish-Radio.

A very happy Michaela Hayes from Spin 103.8 and Spin SouthWest after receiving her IMRO award for supporting Irish music creators today.
Well done!
The latest edition of Presenter Q&A welcomes 98FM Morning host, Brendan O'Loughlin. London born Brendan works alongside co-host Rebecca Shekleton on The Big Breakfast, Mon-Fri on the legendary Dublin station.
Here are his 5 Questions:
1. Who inspired you to work on air?
Dermot & Dave's chemistry and chaotic energy! I fell in love with them when they were on breakfast on 98FM.
2. How did you get your break?
I started reading the news on 98FM when I was 17 (!) I'd do the breakfast show, and run to college straight after.
3. Prep - how much do you feel, is enough.
I think most presenters are almost always prepping in their head. Thinking of how mundane life stuff could be something fun on air. I like when the show is prepped, but with space to do something off-the-cuff.
4. Favourite part of your show?
So many! Little Wins after 7:30am is always great. Listener reaction to Matchy Matchy after 8am has blown our minds, and I love finding bizarre stories for Brendan's Bit after 9am.
5. Which on air person do you admire (anywhere in the world)?
Nick Grimshaw makes it seem effortless. The way he tells a story and the way he is with guests is outstanding add text.

A busy day at the Radio Days Ireland conference at the Gibson Hotel in Dublin.
Day 1 saw speakers from Ireland and abroad such as James Cridland, address the delegates.
A selection of pics above.

Look what can be achieved when you pool talents and resources and think outside your immediate surroundings.
Last year Kayte O'Malley from Galway Bay FM and iRadio's Sharron Lynskey launched 'Cosy Club'.
Nothing to do with radio, Cosy Club was launched last year to bring women in the West of Ireland together socially.
They hold monthly events and meet ups.
Yesterday the initiative gained national attention when it was featured on TG4's show 'Sonas'.
Great achievement for a wonderful idea and well executed by Sharron and Kayte.
Irish-radio.com loves to see radio people expand outwards on their own like this.
Phil Cawley was part of the furniture at Today FM from it's pre-inception as Radio Ireland up until a couple of years ago. These days he can be heard anchoring Mornings on South East Radio and Sundays on Classic Hits Radio.
We're delighted to add Phil to our Q&A panel.
Here are his 5 Questions:
1. Who inspired you to work on air?
The great pirate DJs of the 80s inspired my decision to get into Radio. Dave C, Henry Owens, Declan Meehan etc.
2. How did you get your first break?
My first real break was with Larry Gogan on an OB! I did the “just a minute quiz” and got a call to audition for 2fm .
3. Prep - How much do you feel is enough?
75% the day before and the rest before the show.
4. Favourite part of your show?
Without a doubt, interaction with listeners.
5. Which on air person do you admire (anywhere in the world)?
Most admired music and entertainment Broadcaster is Ken Bruce tied with Ryan Tubridy.

Congrats to Dubliner Darragh O'Dea who is enjoying market leading ratings in Western Australia.
After 18 months with 91.7 The Wave, he has achieved the biggest increase in drivetime audience compared to the last survey.
The growth out performed all of the stations, making it one of the strongest stations in Mandurah WA.
Current Share: 22% +4.8% (224k +53k)
Darragh worked with FM104, 98FM and KFM.

Not necessarily directly related to radio in Ireland but Presenters from a certain era will recognise the name Andy Peebles, who has died aged 76.
He presented on BBC Radio 1 from 1978 to 1992 and also hosted a number of editions of Top of the Pops in the 1970s and 80s.
Tony Blackburn called him "a lovely man and a great broadcaster".
It's worth finding some audio online to take a listen to one of the people who molded what you do for a living.
RIP Andy Peebles...thanks for all the great links.

Martin King is one of the industry's great survivors.
On Air at the original Sunshine 101 in Dublin, then becoming one of 98FM's original presenters to Today FM and Q102...not forgetting the TV end of things!
One aspect of his presence is self promotion.
Martin is a natural on social media and can teach a thing or two about how to gain attention and maintain awareness. Take his recent posts from New York.
Nice pics that just happened to end up on pop culture web sites this week, showing that the best way to get attention is to get others to talk about you!

98FM has a history of creative promotions through it's history - from the original Cash Call to the Lie Detector, The Fugitive and so on.
Live events have also always played a massive part of the station's life.
So it's no surprise to see the Best of Dublin Awards come back
"Have your say and tell us where you think does the best coffee in Dublin to the best place for a night out. Do you have a local newsagents that is always there when you run out of milk that deserves some recognition? Now's their time to shine!"
Only issue we have is no event date on the entry form but no doubt that will be revealed soon enough.

Coincidence or good timing?
Over the weekend, we highlighted Country music on Irish Radio and how it is under represented on the national level.
Then, up pops a possible solution!
Teasing on socials is HR Country, branding as Country Hits All Day Long.
No other details have been given except for the main message being that "This will be Ireland's number 1 Country music station, dedicated to Country artists of today and yesterday."
The key here will be offering more than a jukebox with imaging but by recruiting presenters who know the music and can host without adding in the crutches of content creation.
Country music listeners are incredibly loyal and expect their station to respect the music and life-style.
Smart speakers allow so much choice, so it's vital to stand out as 'Irish' in a sea of options.
Good luck to them, we hope they do very well.
Presenter of the Week
For a music genre with massive popularity in Ireland, Country Music is under represented on the national airwaves.
People like Stephen Keogh have given it a great try but these days the baton is firmly in the hands of Clodagh Lawlor.
In part due to Today FM launching a weekly Country Show, which Clodagh presents but also to her already vibrant singing career.
Her passion for the music and knowledgeable, easy on-air style could bring Country to a larger audience and add some extra energy to the radio landscape... (can you say DAB?)

Congratulations to Niall Power, as he takes up the role of Managing Editor at Beat102103
Niall has been with the station since it's launch after joining from 98FM.
He presented 'Beat Talk' in the afternoons from 2006 (back when that was part of the station's remit.)
Then, to anchoring the Breakfast show - (which he currently hosts with Shonagh Lyons.)
In 2010 he took up the role of Head of Station Sound.
You can also find Niall speaking at RadioDays conferences annually.
Big job replacing the outgoing Gabrielle Cummins but we have no doubt he'll smash it.
In our latest Q&A, we asked Radio Nova's Friday Night Rock Show presenter Vikki Martin our 5 Questions.
1. Who inspired you to work on air?
Marty Whelan, Alison Curtis, Gerry Ryan, Gay Byrne.
2. How did you get your break?
Oh wow, well a series of FORTUNE EVENTS LOL. So, got a job on an internet rock radio station during the lockdown, was invited to take part in RadioStar got into the top 10, did a masters degree in Radio & TV production and then one day got a call from Nova after submitting my demo and here I am.
3. Prep - how much do you feel, is enough?
Yikes! So it depends! My show is a specialist music show so anywhere from 2- 3 days pre production/research.
4. Favourite part of your show?
THE LISTENERS!
5. Which on air person do you admire (anywhere in the world)?
Oh em -
Delilah Rene. Lauren Laverne oh oh and a guilty pleasure of mine is Howard Stern.

Steven Cooper from iRadio's morning show is supporting 'Bog Run Lough Boora 2025' -
taking place in the Discovery Park Co. Offaly. This is a fundraiser designed to help children with cancer.
There are junior and senior courses available and each participant is entered into a prize draw.
This is a great example of how a station and presenter can connect with their audience and build up goodwill with listeners. Radio is all about connections.
Well done to Steven, who seems genuinely on board with this initiative.

Irish radio stations are fantastic at promoting local talent and hyping their presence.
Cork's 96FM has been backing Allie Sherlock massively over the past few weeks, both on air and online.
The station is behind a ticket giveaway for the singer's upcoming tour (her first) and managed to turn it into an event...like all good stations should.
The prize is for two people to see her twice!
Berlin on March 27th and then again in Cork on April 17th!
Includes:
Return flights from Dublin.
2 nights in a luxury hotel in Berlin on March 26th & 27th
Tickets to both gigs and meet Allie before she goes on stage.
Pic is of Izzy Showbizzy calling listener, Vicky - the overall prize winner.

We're delighted to add Andrew Morrissey, Radio Kerry breakfast Presenter to our industry Q&A.
Here are his 5 Questions and Answers.
1. Who inspired you to work on air?
I used to love the windups with Mick Mulcahy on 96fm on my way to school in the 90s. I remember thinking what a cool job he does. Also guys like Phillip Bourke (former Red FM), Emmet Kennedy (former 96fm), Ken Tobin C103, Damien Farrelly Classic Hits, Tony Fenton RIP. Some of these guys are good friends now but loved listening to all of them.
2. How did you get your break?
I worked on pirate radio first and while at college I sent demos everywhere while I was doing overnights on 96fm and Radio Kerry offered me a temp contract for the summer in 2008. I’m there since.
3. Prep - how much do you feel, is enough?
Prep is vital. It’s hard to put together a decent show if you just switch on the mic and have nothing to say. I think over prep is best. Just in case the whole studio falls down around you and you need something to fall back on.
4. Favourite part of your show?
My Co-Presenter Elaine Kinsella. We get on very well and have good craic.
5. Which on air person do you admire (anywhere in the world)?
Big fan of The Neil Prendeville show in Cork and I think KC on breakfast is brilliant. Outside of Ireland I love Jase and Lauren on Nova in Melbourne.
Hear Andrew weekday mornings on Radio Kerry.

Well, this is an interesting development.
We all felt that South East Radio was prime for a takeover but, to be honest, always suspected the station would be added to the Bauer stable to accompany Beat102103 as a key part of the south and south east regions.
So, the move by Midlands 103 today and the announcement that they had purchased the Wexford based outlet came out of the blue.
What does this mean for staff?
South East's on air roster hasn't changed much over the years but will this mean cuts or new voices?
Will long serving on air Presenters maintain their positions? Will some programming be shared?
With any purchase comes change.
Midlands is part of the Tindle Group who also run stations in Jersey and Guernsey.
Eamonn Buttle, SER's MD said "I wish the Tindle Group continued success and know that South East Radio is in safe hands with Midlands 103, as we share the same belief in supporting and promoting local issues."
St. Patrick's Day across the country and a great opportunity for radio stations to show the colours and connect with the audience.
Mention for KCLR, WLR, South East Radio, Live95 and Beat102103 as their presenters took to the streets and made it all the more special.
Happy Paddy's Day one and all!

Saturdays are going to be very busy for 98FM Presenter, Karl Dawson.
Along with the Saturday morning breakfast show in Dublin, Karl has been brought in to host afternoons on iRadio.
Part of being in the Bauer stable means lots of opportunities for crossover gigs...just like KC and Ciara Revins on both Red FM and Today FM.
Well done, Karl. We hope you enjoy the new show.
By the way, you may also know Karl by the alter-ego, Dame Stuffy, 'Queen of Ballymun'!
Today saw the start of the brand new 2FM weekend schedule.
RTE has put a lot of effort into launching this new look schedule and...credit where it's due - it made an impression.
The lead up over the past few weeks has seen the new Presenters crop up on radio, TV and print and each seems to bring a new energy that maybe lacked before.
Stick with the line-up, let them establish themselves and they could have the makings of a successful weekend product.
It's nice to see effort placed into creating some excitement around radio shows.
Well done and best of luck to all.

Jason Collins - East Coast FM
We're delighted today to bring you another in our series where we ask on-air people around the country 5 Questions about them and their career.
Today we have the brilliant Jason Collins of East Coast FM in Wicklow.
1. Who inspired you to work on air?
Gerry Ryan. I was working with a guy delivering furniture one summer and all the guy ever had on was 2FM. Gerry was a legend, witty, clever and has that knack for getting people to completely open up and let you in on their trauma. The guest would cry, he's be crying and you'd be choked up too. That's rare as hens teeth now.
2. How did you get your break?
Short answer is some gigs with KFM after meeting with Paul Power but the longer answer is the help I got from Andy Clarke who was running Communicorp's online training radio station FRQ.fm. So many great people came through that and a lot have to thank Andy for his guidance and being a great guy in Radio.
3. Prep - how much do you feel, is enough?
Oh my weekend shows, I feel people want to know what sport is happening, what entertainment is on and what's on the box later. So I prep links for all of that. I pride myself on that content plus my music knowledge.
4. Favourite part of your show?
Nailing a great intro into a song, nothing beats the feeling of that perfect link.
5. Which on air person do you admire (anywhere in the world)?
Tom Dunne. Love the voice and how he presents. Friendly, enthusiastic and a bit cheeky. He seems like he'd be great craic on a night out.
You can hear Jason weekends on East Coast FM.

If you work for Radio Kerry or Beat 102103...these pictures ought to make you happy, as both stations sign 10 year broadcast contracts.
10 years is a long time in radio.
What will the landscape be like in 2035?
With DAB becoming a more realistic platform, what will the industry develop into over the next decade?
Will networking and consolidation become essential for survival?
How many on-air jobs will exist and what will they look like?
The coming years will be pivotal for radio in this country.

We're delighted today to bring you a new series where we ask on-air people around the country 5 Questions about them and their career.
To start us off, we have the wonderful Chris Murray - host of the LMFM Breakfast Show.
1. Who inspired you to work on air?
My uncle John Bryan's, He worked on a pirate station called 'Radio City 257' in Capel street Dublin and asked me if I wanted to help him answer the phones, He let me play some music on the air (it was records & tapes at the time.) I was only young and from then on I got the radio bug.
2. How did you get your break?
I was listening to Joe Doyle on Radio Dublin in 1990 and heard him say that they were looking for presenters, I gave him a call and he said I had a good speaking voice & could I start on Monday from 6pm till 8pm.
3. Prep - how much do you feel is enough?
Prep is key, You can never have enough as it gives you more confidence for the show knowing you have your homework done. I'm always on LMFM mode and the key for the breakfast show is local, local, local.
4. Favourite part of your show?
'Breaking News In Your House' It's all about what's happening in our listeners lives, whether it's a new baby being born, couples getting married, holiday plans or buying a new car.
5. Which on-air person do you admire (anywhere in the world)?
Andy Preston. Great friend of mine for over 35 years, from working with him on pirate radio in the 90s to listening to his effortless style of presenting.
You can hear Chris weekday mornings HERE and follow him on Instagram @chrismurraylmfm

New Podcast klaxon!
Colm Hayes from Classic Hits has teamed up with his brother Justin Caffrey for their new podcast Brothers In Arms.
Like nearly everything else in 2025, it's on the Goloud platform.
Let's see if the world is ready.
Launches today.

Is your station planning something special for Patrick's Day?
Maybe you're just looking forward to the day off or the chance to fill in on a high profile gig.
The people at Christmas FM have Paddy's Day covered with The Sound of Ireland.
From The Corrs to Sinead O'Connor to The Frank and Walter's, the playlist is 100% Irish.
No live Presenters from what we can tell (feel free to correct us on that one.)
You can listen on Alexa and via a link on the website.
Cute idea.

Congratulations to Rob O'Neill, who announced his new gig at Cork's 96FM Saturdays from 2-6pm.
Filling in and working swing is a good start to a career but nothing beats having your name associated with one show: YOUR show!
"I'll be bringing the ultimate weekend vibes, the best music mix, entertainment news and plenty of fun. Can't wait to get started.
Best of luck from us here at IrishRadiodotcom, Rob.
It's a massive day for Today FM as The Big Busk takes place around the country.
Promoted across the schedule from the Ian Dempsey breakfast show, this event achieves three goals.
1. The obvious charity angle benefiting Focus Ireland.
2. 'Feel good' factor for the station.
3. Connection with audience.
From the Today FM website:
We’re asking you to step up, sing out, and make a difference with Today FM's Big Busk for Focus Ireland 2025 on Friday March 7th.
We're calling all singers, musicians, bands, choirs, community groups, pubs and schools to play your part in ending homelessness.

Once the weekend kicks in...the outside broadcasts move into high gear.
Today sees two of Dublin's big hitters add to the station coffers with Radio Nova's Dee Woods and Tara Murray of FM104.
For some Presenters this is a nice break from the norm and a chance to spend some time with the Street crew and engineer. That can be fun.
For others, the OB is dreaded. They prefer to stay safely hidden back at base.
Which one are you?

The standard of Online Radio in Ireland has improved leaps and bounds over the past 5 years.
A great example is Hits Radio Ireland.
With a slick website, useable app and smart speaker availability, this is a station that put all of their ducks in a row before launching.
On Air presenters include John Troy, John Clarke, Paul Dower and Dave Whelan.
Maybe one day they will apply for a Temporary FM license?

Congratulations to JP McNamara on his advancement at C103.
JP has worked at the station producing the 'Cork Today' show with Patricia Messenger for the past 16 years...with some fill-in presentation as well. Quite the run!
"I'm leaving the show but staying with the station to present evenings."
You can catch JP from 7pm Monday to Friday (along with his established Sunday show).
Well done!

Do you work in Community Radio?
It can be difficult to guage how your show or station is performing as the JNLR's don't cover you.
Good news!
Craol, with matched CBSS funding from Coimisiún na Meán has conducted an extensive audience survey in the Community Radio sector.
Some of the findings:
• Four in ten adults in Ireland (40%) reported listening to at least one community radio station.
Overall, 80% agree that community radio makes them feel more informed and connected with their local area.
- Compared to the general adult population, community radio listeners, particularly frequent listeners, are more likely to be male and aged 18–34.
- Overall, people value community radio most for its local focus, familiar voices and its ability to foster conversation. Frequent listeners, in particular, are more likely to find it more relevant than national or local radio and prefer the music selection.
- Nearly half of listeners (46%) have participated in an activity with their community radio station, with engagement rising to 64% among frequent listeners.
Nice to know!

Congratulations to writer, actor and broadcaster Simon Delaney on his one year anniversary with RTE Lyric FM, today.
Lyric has come a long way since its early days as a split frequency service called FM3.
Back then it was an exclusive and often high brow station with a minuscule audience base.
These days it very much knows what it is and who it's audience is too.
A fantastic alternative to the commercial offerings, Lyric brings a very welcome sound.
Here's to many more years Simon!

Sidelines, extra earners...call them what you will. One thing we know, they are a very important part of what you do as a radio presenter.
Stephen Daly is a fantastic example of how to keep your fingers in lots of pies.
From his work on Dublin City FM to Q102, East Coast FM and Voiceover projects, he sets the bar very high for others to follow.
We are pleased to see him return to a passion project - Coffee.

Friday is a busy day around the country as radio stations leave the studio for outside broadcasts.
Included today we find East Coast FM, KCLR, Midwest Radio and KFM.
Some bring their mobile broadcast units...others just a basic laptop and mic set up.
If you were on the road today, we hope it went well for you.
Today was a perfect day to leave base with the sun shining the length and breadth of the country.

Bauer Media Ireland are on a push to fill vacancies in the company.
With a stable of stations from Today FM, iRadio, RED FM NewsTalk and the Spin stations, this is the company to get a foot into.
So many options available once you become part of the team including crossover opportunities between stations.
How many times, for example, have you heard someone from 98FM guest on NewsTalk.
Also, location is not an issue- witness Ciara Revin and KC running their Today FM shows from Cork.
Find out more and apply:

Radio has fascinated people since day one and despite new technology and options, continues to attract new enthusiasts and upcoming presenters and producers.
One such person runs FMChats...his name is Jack.
Jack spoke with iRadio Presenter Conor Woods on his YouTube channel.
Worth watching to see how the future is developing and also to enjoy hearing Conor's outlook on the industry and the skills needed for radio as a career.

Seen on the streets of Dublin, the new bus sides advertising the Strawberry Alarm Clock on FM104.
This show has been a consistent feature of morning radio in the capital from the days of Justin McKenna and Colm Hayes to Jim McCabe, to Nobby and Jim Jim.
Bus sides like this re-enforce the show in listener's minds and help re-establish awareness in a passive way.
Along with billboards and bus shelters, they are an effective marketing tool with one obvious advantage - mobility.

This morning saw the launch of (another) brand new breakfast show on 2FM.
If that sounds sarcastic, we apologise. However, we do wonder sometimes what the plan is on Donnybrook as this is the 4th breakfast show in the past year.
We wish nothing but good luck and success to Carl Mullan, Roz Purcell and former Spin1038'er Aisling Bonner.
The 2FM breakfast show has been re-invented many times from the days of Ian Dempsey, Marty Whelan, Ryan Tubridy, Maxi, Keith Walsh and Colm Hayes.
It will take more than 'bants' and loud laughing on air to make this one work but with the very talented Aisling Bonner on board.. it has a real chance.
All they need is support, guidance and belief from management and this can be great.
Good luck guys!

Well done from Irish-Radio to Tracy Clifford as she was declared Best Radio Show at last night's Gossie Awards in Dublin.
Tracy's 2FM show was up against the likes of The Strawberry Alarm Clock, Brendan and Rebecca on 98FM, Ryan Tubridy on Q102 and Newstalk's Lunchtime Live.
A nice boost to win any award, so congrats to Tracy.

Dec Pierce from Block Rockin' Beats has had a dramatic year or so.
From a serious brain injury to recovery, the continued success of his show on Today FM, to live gigs around the country...he speaks about it all openly.
Now, he has another venture and is teasing about it on his socials.
Today finds Dec in Iceland for, what looks like, an incredibly innovative project.
From the pirates in the 90s to FM104 and 98FM in Dublin, national radio with 2FM and now Today FM, he has achieved so much and we're looking forward to the big reveal.

Waterford's WLR run a social media poll along with it's afternoon show 'The Spin Home' to ask listeners what they think of Neighbours TV show being placed on the chopping block for the second time.
It's current, relatable and audience friendly.
Better than "What's your favourite biscuit"!

Today FM's Dave Moore posted about the upcoming Big Busk for Focus Ireland.
March 7th is the date and you can find out more here: http://www.joinus.focusireland.ie

Outside broadcasts continue to work on two fronts - generating much needed income for the station and a way to connect in person with your audience.
Highland Radio (as you probably know) are masters of this.
Today, they took the mid-morning show to the Centra in Mountain Top.
Two laptops and two mics. That's all you need.

Great to see vinyl used on air in 2025. Lorcan Murray's weekly feature 'Midweek Choice' gives listeners the chance to choose a piece of music played directly from the studio turntables.
Here we see Lorcan in the Lyric FM studio cueing up a track live on air
('Behind The Scenes'.)

Radio stations signing with CnaM for another 10 years of broadcasting include Spin 1038, Ocean FM and Sunshine 106.8FM.
Picture above shows management of Sunshine at the CnaM offices.

Cork's 96FM has a new Producer for the daily talk show The Opinion Line.
In an Instagram post today, Paul Byrne is seen in studio and walking about the streets of Cork explaining his role and what he hopes to achieve with the show.
Also, this is a call out to listeners:
* What's happening around Cork?
* What stories are affecting you?
* What stories should be covered.
The talk show/listener input format is long established in Ireland and can bring in the revenue needed to keep a station on track.
PJ Coogan does a great job hosting The Opinion Line (up against national talk shows and Neil Prendeville, locally).

Kathryn Thomas - Dublin's Q102 Breakfast Host 🥐🎙️
Kathryn Thomas is the new voice for early risers on Dublin's Q102! Recently, she took to Instagram to share her excitement about her new role as the station's breakfast host. This opportunity marks her first full-time on-air position after she occasionally filled in on stations such as RTÉ Radio 1.
Thomas has been actively posting a range of content including wrap-ups with guests, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and casual mobile content that captures her emotions about the new job.. Although her show is still in its infancy, it's already creating quite a bit of opinion.
Only time will tell how Kathryn's show will fare as the lead-in to the Ryan Tubridy show from London. With the legacy of former staffers Andy Preston and Debbie Allen casting long shadows, the bar is set high. Will Kathryn be able to surpass their performance on the station? We're keenly watching to find out!
Stay tuned for more updates and behind-the-scenes scoops from Kathryn herself. 📻✨

FM104 continue the relentless promotion push that every Dublin station needs in order to survive.
The latest saw Tara Murray on Instagram hype two upcoming concerts aimed at the station's demographic: Natasha Bedingfield (for the older skewing listener) and Camilla Cabello.
The capital's radio market is cut throat and no doubt 104 will use giveaways and promotions like Graham & Nathan's Quid Games to try pull back audience attracted to Radio Nova and Sunshine 106.8
